Application Fee & Detailed Payment Rules

  • Fee Payable for General / OBC / EWS Male Candidates: ₹200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only)
  • Fee Exemption: Female candidates, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are fully exempted from payment of fee.
  • Payment Modes Available: Online payment via State Bank of India (SBI) net banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, RuPay Credit/Debit cards, UPI, or generating a cash pay-in-slip for branch deposit.

UPSC ESE 2027 Age Limit, Calculation & Detailed Relaxations (As on 01/01/2027)
  • Standard Age Bracket: Candidates must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years as of 01/01/2027 (i.e., must have been born not earlier than 02/01/1997 and not later than 01/01/2006).
  • In-Depth Upper Age Limit Relaxations:
    • Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST): Up to 5 Years
    • Other Backward Classes (OBC): Up to 3 Years
    • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Up to 10 Years (15 years for SC/ST, 13 years for OBC)
    • Domiciled Residents of J&K (1st Jan 1980 to 31st Dec 1989): Up to 5 Years
    • Defence Services Personnel (Disabled in operations): Up to 3 Years (8 years if SC/ST)
    • Ex-Servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs: Up to 5 Years subject to service limits.

  • Degree Requirement: Obtained a Degree in Engineering from a recognized University incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
  • Alternative Qualification: Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or obtained a Pass/Degree/Diploma in Engineering from foreign universities/colleges recognized by the Govt of India.
  • Final Year Status: Candidates appearing in their final year degree examinations are provisionally eligible.

UPSC ESE 2027 In-Depth Selection Process & Examination Scheme

The competitive examination comprises three consecutive parts designed to test intellectual capacity and engineering proficiency:

  • Stage-I (Preliminary Examination - Objective Type):
    • Paper-I: General Studies and Engineering Aptitude (200 Marks, 2 Hours duration).
    • Paper-II: Engineering Discipline specific (300 Marks, 3 Hours duration). Total = 500 Marks.
  • Stage-II (Main Examination - Conventional Type):
    • Paper-I: Engineering Discipline Specific - I (300 Marks, 3 Hours).
    • Paper-II: Engineering Discipline Specific - II (300 Marks, 3 Hours). Total = 600 Marks.
  • Stage-III (Personality Test / Interview): Carrying 200 Marks for personal assessment, leadership evaluation, intellectual capability, and social traits.
  • Final Merit Ranking: Calculated based on total marks secured in Stage-I (Prelims), Stage-II (Mains), and Stage-III (Interview).
